Dell XPS (Xtreme Performance System) is a line of gaming and performance computers manufactured by Dell.

History

The XPS (Xtreme Performance System) name dates back to 1990 when Dell focused more on the company's business than the consumer. Gateway is number one in the high-end consumer market. In early 1993, there was a staff meeting to discuss how to pursue this emerging market. At this time, Dell's annual revenue is less than $ 500 million and Michael Dell is involved in most decisions. At this meeting, it was decided to launch a new high-end product line to compete with Gateway. Vernon Weiss is assigned as product manager to spearhead and manage new products. In September 1993, the first two versions of the XPS line were announced. The first generation of XPS systems is available either as a desktop or case tower. This new product line is very far ahead of the competition featured on the cover of the October 1993 edition of PC/Computing.

Over the next three years, with Vernon Weiss managing the product line, the XPS system won over 100 reviews and magazine covers, becoming the first to adopt the latest PC technology available and bringing it to consumers at an attractive price. XPS mainly competes with computers such as Acer Aspire, HP's Pavilion and Envy, Lenovo IdeaPad and Toshiba's Satellite.

From 1997 to 2001, when Dell grew into a large company, the XPS line lost its position as a leading performance engine and basically just a line for fast computers. In 2005, Dell changed the XPS line to compete with Alienware (now owned by Dell) and Falcon Northwest.

In 2005, Dell separated its home desktop system into two channels: Dell Dimension and XPS. Consumer notebooks are also separated into two lines: Inspiron and XPS. While the designation of XPS used means that the hardware is high-end and suitable for gaming, it's no longer the case. For example, XPS 200 is limited to low-end video cards, while the XPS M140 can only be configured with Intel video, thus making both systems unsuitable for gaming or high-end use.

Dell has considered buying Alienware since 2002, but did not take any action until March 22, 2006, when it agreed to buy the company. Alienware retains its autonomy in terms of design and marketing. However, Alienware access to Dell's supply chain management, purchasing power, and economies of scale lowered operating costs. The XPS line initially has the same specifications as those offered by the Alienware division. In 2008, Dell introduced "Studio XPS" and Dell advertised it as a performance computer line while Alienware was being advertised for game play. On June 2, 2009, M17x was introduced as the first Alienware/Dell branded system.

CNET editor Rich Brown, who wrote a review that rewards XPS One 27's "Editor's Choice Award, notes that it" boasts the highest screen resolution among Windows 8 all-in-one, and at an aggressive price. "

On its page that discusses PCMag's choices for the best product of the year, it says that the all-in-one "manages to put virtually all the technology and features we're looking for in this stylish compact chassis."

There are reports from many buyers complaining about quality control issues on the screen. There are dust particles trapped between the screen and the touch panel. Some buyers even accept some exchange or screen replacement and the problem still exists. Some people may not be aware, but changing the brightness will show these spots. They look like dead pixels. http://reviews.dell.com/2341n/xps-one-27-2710-aio/dell-xps-one-27-reviews/reviews.htm?sort=rating&dir=asc

XPS 200 series

XPS 200

The model is available from late 2005 to the end of the third quarter of 2006. Replaced by the XPS 210, which is almost identical to its predecessor. The main exceptions in this regard are upgrades to Intel Core 2 Duo processors and other minor adjustments.

XPS 210

The small-form-factor casing is 67% smaller than the XPS 410. It does not use a full-size PCI slot. XPS 200 is intended to be a low-impact engine, which means it blends better with the room features. It's more than a multimedia computer than an actual gaming machine, despite the XPS name. The main difference between the XPS 210 and its predecessor, the XPS 200, is an upgrade to the Intel Core 2 Duo processor line. This makes the XPS 210 faster than the XPS 200.

XPS 400 series

XPS 400

This model was available during late 2005 and the first half of 2006. It was replaced by the XPS 410, which is almost identical to the exclusion of the optional Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the slightly different audio and video card options

XPS 410

Former middle model of XPS series and bigger sister to Dimension E510. It features basic configuration of Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 2.4 GHz 2 Core Quad is also available as an option. Other basic options include Nvidia GeForce 7300LE, 7200RPM SATA-300 hard drive, and dual-channel DDR2 RAM. The casing is almost identical to the E510 Dimension, with an additional 3.5 inch drive bay added. This case is physically higher because of this. The power supply is also slightly more powerful than the Dimension E510 (375 W vs 305 W, respectively). XPS 410 replaces the XPS 400. Replaced by XPS 420. The XPS 410 unit is also sold as Dimension 9200, allowing Dell to continue to sell the remaining units after the XPS 410 discontinued.

In a weird twist, Dimension 9200 is the last desktop in the Dimension line, effectively creating the last XPS unit in the Dimension family.

XPS 420

Now discontinued, features the same components as the XPS 410, but uses different case designs and new features. This is a Dell media-based computer featuring Dell Xcelerator (a simple and effective Video Recorder), and an LCD screen in this case, running Windows Vista SideShow. As always with the XPS Line 4XX it does not allow for SLI Graphics. XPS 420 adds support for 45nm CPU Core2 Duo/Quad/and Extreme up to QX9650. & lt;/ref & gt; https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General/XPS-420-CPU-Upgrade/td-p/4660688

XPS 430

Similar to 420, with DDR3 RAM and no LCD on the computer chassis.

XPS 435T, XPS 435MT

This is the LGA1366 X58 chipset computer in the ATX layout. XPS435T is a Mid Tower and is supported by 6 core i7 CPU and 3 channel DDR3 memory. It's a heatpipe cooler on a chipset. XPS435MT is a smaller version of Mini Tower. It initially has support for 4 core Nehalem i7 CPUs but 4 and 6 core Haswell support added with A15 BIOS. That's a passive cooler on the chipset. It has 3 channels of DDR3 memory as well. Many Nehalem, and Haswell Xeon CPUs can be installed here as well. Because the memory controller that is on the CPU memory speed will vary with the CPU selected, and also with the number of RAM modules installed.

XPS 600 series

XPS 600

Former flagship model of the XPS series featuring dual-core Intel Pentium D 950 processors, dual Nvidia GeForce 7900GTX in SLI mode, 7200 RPM SATA hard drives, and dual-channel DDR2 RAM. The case has not changed significantly over the last few generations, with large aluminum plates on the front. Discontinued a few days after XPS 700 launch and succeeded by XPS 700.

XPS 625

XPS 630 version but with AMD Phenom II chip and ATI Graphics.

XPS 630

Description

It is no longer available from Dell as a new system purchase, but it's in a factory outlet. This desktop at one time fills the gap between XPS 420/430 media-oriented and XPS 730x high-end. There is no physical difference between 630 and 630i. The marketing concept is to use "i" to designate systems installed with Intel chipsets, and "a" for systems with AMD-installed chipsets, but because Intel-based chipsets are the only model ever sold, this designation has little significance.. 630 is equipped with a Dell-modified Nvidia nForce 650i chipset that supports both SLI and CrossFire configurations, but does not have ESA certification (the only ESA-certified component in the 630i is the "Master Input/Output" (or "MIO") printed circuit board from Dell). The XPS 630 at one time comes standard with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU and Nvidia GeForce 8800GT dual graphics card.

Problems and solutions

There are some problems with the XPS 630 including problems with chassis fan control, chassis LED lights, and non-shipping lightshow 2.0 LightFX control software. unlimited PCIe slot configurations (8,8,1,1 unlike OEM Nvidia 650i SLI motherboards that also offer configuration 16.1,1,1), constant HDD LED activity, and reliability issues due to problems attached to the Nvidia 650i SLI Chipset can appear when overclocking with 4 or more gigabytes of RAM. The problems resulted in PC PRO canceling their Recommendation award for the system.

July 22, 2009 release Softex Media Plug-in has provided some of the features initially advertised on LightFX. The BIOS update is issued to patch the constant HDD LED activity. Some owners of the 630i have gone through the previously mentioned problem by swapping the Dell modified 650i motherboard with OEM motherboards like EVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW. The motherboard has 8 cable lines for each PCIe slot, which can limit performance when using a high-performance graphics card. Performance is equivalent to other systems with a 650i chipset motherboard when using two graphics cards in IDD mode.

XPS 700 series

XPS 700

Targeted at the gaming community, this model features Intel Pentium D Extreme processors up to 3.7 GHz with dual nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX in SLI mode, SATA 7200RPM hard drive, and dual-channel DDR2 RAM. This desktop is advertised as an overclock but it is not. Dell will then offer a free XPS 720 motherboard upgrade program to all XPS 700 and 710 owners so this machine can be overclocked with bios. The aluminum casing features a distinctive "tilt" design. XPS 700 uses significantly larger power supply (750 watts and 1 kilo-watt) than other XPS models to accommodate high-end video cards and overclocked CPUs. Unlike its vanguard, it uses non-standard BTX motherboards, thus limiting upgradability. Superseded by XPS 710 and many customers are offered free upgrade of motherboards to the XPS 720 specification following complaints about the system.

XPS 710

The flagship model of the official XPS series featuring Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors, and Core 2 Quad processors. Other features include dual nVidia GeForce 7950 GX2 in Quad SLI mode, 7200RPM SATA hard drive, dual-channel DDR2 RAM. XPS 710 uses a much larger power supply than other XPS models to accommodate high-end video cards and overclocked CPUs. Superseded by XPS 720.

XPS 720 H2C

H2C edition computers have included dual stage radiator cooling technology, and motherboards capable of overclocking the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 quad core. The H2C comes standard with an Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX card running on SLI for $ 6,780. XPS 720 H2C uses a slightly higher quality section than other XPS classes and is currently one of the most powerful and one of the fastest pre-wake systems that can be purchased by someone with significant margins. However, the overall performance hamper is the location of 16x PCIe slots. In an ideal SLI configuration, the 16x slot should be closer to the second 16x at the end of the board. This is not currently available in the UK.

XPS 720

Announced on November 24, 2007, XPS 720 is equal to XPS 720 H2C, except it does not have "dual-stage radiator cooling technology." It comes in two versions, the Red Special Edition, which is the same as the normal Black, both come with a 1 kW power supply.

XPS 730 H2C

The 730 H2C has a H2C (high performance cooling system) as standard, ideal for gaming and overclocking. The motherboard, Nvidia nForce 790i Ultra, is capable of overclocking the quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 to 3.64Ã, GHz. DDR3 SDRAM dual channel system memory is available in the United States and United Kingdom. There are also color choices in some outlets. The basic PC model specifications are: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.46 GHz Overclocked), GIGI 1 GB ATI Radeon 3870 X2 Crossfire X Graphics Card, 2 GB Memory, 1 TB 7200rpm Dual HDD. The base price in the UK is Ã,  £ 2,499. The system also features an enhanced H2C cooling device, seen on ultra high-end gaming computers. It has been replaced by XPS 730x (see above).

XPS 730X H2C

Released on 16 November 2008, basically is XPS 730 with Intel Core i7 which also uses new Intel X58 chipset motherboard. 730X, when configured with Core i7 975 Extreme Edition, can overclock the factory to 3.73 GHz with H2Ceramic cooling option. 730X also integrates AlienFX Alienware and new theater lighting system. The internal of the 730X has also been fixed for ease of upgrade, although most of the inside remains the same. 730X supports Tri-Channel 6 GB DDR3. Support graphics card is NVIDIA Geforce GTX 285 double or single, or ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 single. The 730X operating system also supports 64-bit Windows. Dell internally discontinued XPS 730X at its US online store on or about August 1, 2009 and canceled the remaining orders after August 15, 2009. It has been mentioned that this is done to focus more attention on customers looking for a gaming computer, such as Alienware. Desktop was officially discontinued on September 17, 2009 (see Dell XPS 730x).

This is the fourth generation XPS 15, which has taken many design elements from the X5 Edition of Ivy Bridge 15 but improves cooling/throttling, adding updated Haswell and GeForce GT 750M CPUs, no optical drives, and relatively high-resolution 3200 ÃÆ'â € " 1800. XPS 15 shipped with Windows 8.1. It is worth mentioning that there are three different models of the new XPS 15 available today. The basic model of the XPS 15 comes with a 1920 × 1080 touch screen (not clear whether this is a TN panel or not), a 500 GB HDD with 32 GB SSD cache, dual-core i5-4200H CPU, 8 GB RAM, integrated HD 4400 Graphics, and a 61Wh battery. The mid-range model has a quad-core i7-4702HQ CPU, 3200 ÃÆ'â € "1800 PPS (similar to IPS) touchscreen, 16 GB RAM, GT 750M GDDR5 GPU, 1D HDD TB, with 32D SSD cache, GB, and 61Wh battery. The high end edition is mostly the same as the mid-range model but replaces the HDD with the mDATA 512Ã-SSD, GB and adds a larger 91Wh battery instead of the 2.5 "drive. There is also a higher resolution 4k 3840x2160, slightly better CPU - i7-4712HQ.

The 9530 has been criticized for its Wi-Fi 802.11ac instability. Currently this model has a problem with respect to an annoying power/hissing noise called 'Coil Whine'.

XPS 15 (9550)

On October 8, 2015, Dell updated the XPS 15 (9550) with Skylake micro architecture. The 15.6-inch InfinityEdge UltraSharp (TM) screen is included to fit into a relatively small notebook body that responds well to standard Windows 8.1 friction and commands. The new model brings options for the new Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9, with options for the latter, the Core i9-8950HK six-core, which clocks at 2.9GHz, by increasing the 4.8GHz clock and the ability to be overclocked as well. The new model also comes with an option for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics card, and has an optional fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. The webcam placement has also shifted to below the DELL logo at the bottom of the screen. The non-touch Full HD variant also now offers 100% sRGB color coverage on its IPS display, and its Thunderbolt 3 port now supports all four lanes of PCIe, unlike the previous model, which only has support for two lanes.

XPS 15z

XPS 15z (L511Z)

XPS 15z was released in May 2011 and is a 15.6-inch laptop. It was branded as the thinnest 15-inch PC on the market. Noted because it has a design that is very similar to Apple's current Macbook Pro generation computers, and even wear a silver-colored aluminum case. The base price of the release is US $ 999 (A $ 1399) and customizable to Intel Core i7 dual-core processors. equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M video card 1 GB (Australian version comes with 2GB of video RAM), and can be adjusted up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory. The computer can have a 750Ã © hard drive, GB 7200 RPM or 256Ã, solid state drive GB. It also contains a reader/burner/CD burner/8x slot reader. The American version has a basic screen resolution of 1366 ÃÆ'â € "768, while Australia's release is 1920ÃÆ'â €" 1080 pixels. On September 6, 2011, Dell increased the option for extra Core i5 and i7 processors. Throughout its production, XPS 15z is plagued with a DCP latency-related sound surge due to damaged network drivers provided by Dell. The solution is to use a third-party driver, as found by the forum user community. Another chronic problem is the lower right corner of the LCD will dim at random times. Replacement of all LCD assembly will solve this problem only temporarily. XPS 15z production stops in the first half of 2012, but the design is carried by XPS 14z.

XPS 17

XPS 17 (L701X)

Dell XPS 17, released in October 2010, is a desktop replacement laptop in the line of XPS Laptops. It costs $ 949 for basic configuration, but can be adjusted heavily. The options include upgraded processors to Intel Core i7-840QM (Nehalem based), Nvidia GeForce GT 555 3Ã, GB graphics cards, DDR3 RAM memory up to 16 GB, 1.28 TB hard drives (2ÃÆ' â € "640Ã, GB @ 7200 RPM) a 17.3-inch 1600 × 900 resolution, and a Blu-ray Disc drive. It also has a 1920 ÃÆ'â € "1080 (Full HD) LCD upgrade and a 3D display kit.

In addition, discrete graphics have been upgraded to Nvidia GeForce GT 550M 1 GB graphics card or 3 GB GT 555M graphics card for Full HD 3D Display; Can be customized with up to 16 GB DDR3 RAM (8 GB ÃÆ'â € "2) or 32Ã,® GB (4 slot @ 8Ã, GB) ram with 3D models only Model: HMT41GS6MFR8C (Hynix) Problems have been reported with charging and charging ports with just a little movement.

XPS M1730

The XPS M1730 was announced on October 5, 2007 as the latest 17-inch XPS laptop computer. Compared to its predecessor, the XPS M1710, the M1730 model is physically redesigned with a completely new chassis available in gray, white, blue, or red. Like the M1710, the M1730 offers unique LED lighting for users and software that can be changed on the touchpad, outlet/inlet outlet, and speaker louvers and louvers. Also like its predecessor, it features a 17 inch wide screen. From component angles, it supports overclockable Intel Core 2 Extreme processors (2.8 GHz to 3.4 GHz overclock via X7900 or X9000 Processor), NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX dual SLI video cards, up to two 7200 RPM SATA hard drives available in RAID, and up to 8 GB of DDR2 SDRAM. Blu-ray Disk Drive is an option in some models. New with this latest version is an optional optional AGEIA physical card to allow enhanced titles PhysX takes advantage of physics acceleration hardware, options for 64Ã,® solid state drive, keyboard with back lit including numeric keypad, and Logitech gaming LCD screen above keyboard.

Criticism

The M1730 has been criticized for its looks, increased weight and size compared to previous models, and has only slightly improved performance in selected games. The last complaint is likely because Nvidia has just released a mobile version of the 8800M video card that Dell added to the list of options after the M1730 release.

Upgrade

After the initial release of M1730, the option to have a dual GTX 8800M graphics card on SLI is available. This is said to have a power boost of 174% (as cited by Dell) over dual 8700M GT on SLI which was previously the highest available option. Recently the option to have a dual graphics card 9800M GT and 9800M GTX on SLI has been added to the channel.

The 9800M GTX SLI is currently supported by the highest graphics card with 1 GB of GDDR3 VRAM for the M1730, compared to 9800M GT SLI and 8800M GTX SLI with only 512Ã, MB Memory Video available and a slightly higher number of stream processors. Thus, it performs slightly better than GTX 9800M and 8800M GTX cards. The availability of 9800M GTX SLI is rare, and can only be purchased from Dell's limited stores and on eBay. And in many cases, they run out of stock, no longer sold or sell GTX 9800M and 8800M GTX graphics cards before.

XPS M1530

This 15.4-inch laptop, released on November 28, 2007, features the Santa Rosa platform. The XPS M1530 is almost identical in design to the XPS M1330 except that it has 4 different colors (blue, black, pink and red) and it's a bit thicker and heavier with a CCFL or 15.4 inch LED screen. It can be configured with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to T7800 (2.6 GHz)/T9500 (2.6 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache))/X9000 (2.8 Ghz), up to 8 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz, up to 320 GB 5400 rpm hard drive/500 GB 5400 rpm or with 160 GB faster or 240 GB 7200 rpm and up to 320 GB 7200 rpm hard drive or an optional 128-GB solid-state drive, and can be configured with 128 MB DDR2 Geforce 8400GS or 256Ã, MB DDR3 8600MÃ, GT GPU. Wireless draft-n is also available (802.11n). The XPS M1530 includes a biometric fingerprint reader and a 2 MP webcam. Another option for this laptop is the glossy screen 1920ÃÆ' â € "1200, although the screen is smaller 9 inches from a 24 inch Dell monitor. The weight of the system starts at 2.62 kg (5.78 pounds) and depends on the configuration. The laptop contains an internal slot for Dell's mobile broadband card.

XPS M1530 is no longer available for purchase on the Dell website since early August 2009. Dell realizes that the problem is limited to Nvidia chip production, BIOS updated to A12 which improves thermal control but does not prevent it from happening again. The problem associated with Nvidia GPU is the chip material used can not stand the high temperature.

XPS M1330

This high-end 13.3-inch laptop, released on June 26, 2007, features the Santa Rosa platform. It features a 13.3-inch screen with either CCFL or WLED. The WLED-backlit version has a 0.3 MP camera, compared to a 2 MP camera with a CCFL screen. The XPS 1330 with WLED screen is thinner and brighter than previous XPS 1210 versions, the thinner WLED screen forces optics in the camera to be limited to 0.3 MP. In addition, the XPS 1330 can also display biometric fingerprint readers, usually found in business class laptops like the Latitude series. XPS M1330 also offers NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS graphics card as an option. Initially, it can only be configured with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor up to T7700 (2.4 GHz), but can later be configured with a processor up to Intel Core 2 Duo T9500. Noted because of its light weight of only 1.8 kg, XPS M1330 is also available in red line products along with other Dell computers.

XPS M1330 is no longer available for purchase on the US Dell website starting in early August 2009. It has been replaced by M1340 (Studio XPS 13).

Problems

The most frequently reported problem with the M1330 laptop has been overheating. Dell became aware of this problem and found that it was limited to the production of Nvidia G84- and G86-GPU chips, as a result, the BIOS was updated to A12, which improved the thermal control but did not prevent it from happening again. The problem associated with Nvidia GPU is the chip material used can not stand the high temperature. This problem is exacerbated by poor thermal contact between chip and heat pipe (the gap is too big). Some people have overcome the problem of over-heating the graphics chip by forming a heat sink using copper plates and thermal paste to fill the gap between the heat pipe and the graphics chip.

Also, there have been reported cases involving laptop M1330 which are cosmetically defective in manufacture, such as loose hinge covers and unusual and uneven gaps between plastic components, as well as customer complaints about "CPU whine".

Studio XPS 13 (M1340)

Similar to Studio XPS 16 but trimmed into a 14.2 inch aspect display screen of 720p 16:10, it has an illuminated QWERTY keyboard and includes a leather accent on the lid. His full body is a black and silver piano.

The current Studio XPS graphics offerings are Nvidia 9400M G integrated (same as used in MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBooks) and the stronger Nvidia GeForce 9500M GE (composed of GeForce 9400M G integrated and GeForce 9200M GS discrete with 256Ã, · MB memory of GDDR3). When configured with GE 9500M you can switch between 9400M G standalone and 9400M G with 9200M GS in Windows Vista, without exiting and re-entry as you should with Apple products due to the availability of Hybrid SLI. Although this model is still available in Europe with 512VB graphics card nVidia GeForce 210M and NVIDIA GeForce MCP79MX Chipset.

Studio XPS 16

Studio XPS 16 (M1640)

Released in early January 2009, it has a 720p 15.6 inch 720p or 16.0 inch 1080p 16: 9 screen. It comes with a 512 ATI Radeon HD 3670 or ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, DVD/- RW or Blu-ray combo ROM drive, and Windows Vista or Windows 7. It has a QWERTY keyboard and a leather accent on an optional cover. His body is full of black and silver onyx.

Studio XPS 16 (M1645)

Same as above, which features quad-core Intel Core i7 Clarksfield processors on the Intel PM55 mainboard chipset and 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 or 5730. Some of these XPS systems are found to have a throttling problem when demanding applications such as games run on them. Dell is able to provide fixes for problems with community input. This fix involves a stronger BIOS update and a more powerful AC adapter. Other laptops are also found to suffer similar throttling problems.

Studio XPS 16 (M1647)

Same as above, featuring dual core processor Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 Clarksfield. The M1647 motherboard still uses Intel PM55 chipset (as M1645) but overall the motherboard uses less power than its predecessor.

Gen 3

XPS M2010

The XPS M2010 was announced on May 31, 2006 as the top of the office bag-style desktop with a 20.1 inch wide screen with WSXGA and TrueLife resolutions. The outside of the casing has a skin-like appearance. XPS M2010 uses ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 graphics with 256 MB graphics memory and has support for dual hard drives. This laptop can be customized with Intel Core 2 Duo T2500, T5600, T7400 or T7600 and 1Ã, GB, 2Ã, GB or 4à ¢, GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 667Ã, MHz (Although the machine can take 2x2 GB @ 677Ã, MHz Ram, operates at 3.25 GB @ 500Ã, MHz due to chipset constraints as well as FSB constraints). Laptops extend to full desktop sets, including removable bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth mouse, and center distance Radio frequency media. It is praised for high quality sound systems that include 8 separate "speakers under the screen and subwoofer 1" "at the bottom of the machine, ported to the right side while the computer can be folded and carried as a briefcase with a built-in handle, at 18.3 pounds considered too heavy to be a true desktop replacement.

XPS M1710

The XPS M1710 was announced on April 18, 2006 as a replacement for the higher-end 17x WUXGA TrueLife desktop XPS desktop available in black or red. The system is marketed to gamers, sharing chassis design and many components with lower end Inspiron E1705/9400 and higher Precision M90. The basic design features an Intel Core Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GS or 7900 GTX, SATA 7200 RPM hard drive, DDR2 SDRAM, magnesium alloy casing with user configurable multicolor LEDs on the touchpad, fan, speakers and covers, access to "exclusive" segment XPS-brand DELL business support division, and built on the D-Dock Precision M90 motherboard. Then the model offers Core 2 Duo processor, NVidia 7950GTX, and optional Blu-ray. Because the mainboard uses the Intel 945 chipset, the XPS M1710 can not address more than 3.25 GByte of RAM even though Dell mentions "up to 4 GB of RAM". This computer was replaced by XPS M1730. Note that there is a severe overheating problem with the graphics card in this model.

XPS M1210

A high-performance ultra-portable (12.1-inch) notebook featuring a new case design, Intel Core Duo processor technology, an optional optional NVIDIA GeForce 7400 Go video card and an optional 1.3 megapixel integrated web camera. The M1210 also features an optional WWAN (wide area wireless network) that supports 3G broadband services. With standard battery, 1.9 kilogram laptop weight. Unlike other 12-inch notebook computers, the M1210 has an optical drive feature built-in rather than external. This model was discontinued on July 31, 2007.

Gen 2

Inspiron XPS Gen 2/XPS M170 - This successor to Inspiron XPS, has replaced the Pentium 4 desktop with Pentium M processor, which delivers the same level of performance as the Pentium 4 desktop and reduces the weight of 9.06 pounds up to 8.6 pounds It features a 17-inch wide screen at the same resolution as the first generation. Due to the use of mobile processors, this laptop is thinner and lighter than most other high-performance gaming notebooks of its time. It has a very similar design to the XPS M1710. Originally awarded the Nvidia GeForce 256Ã, GPU, the MB 6800 Ultra Go which is Dell's exclusive at the time. The laptop was branded as XPS M170 soon after the GeForce Go 7800 GTX was established. The Inspiron 9300 is based on that, as it is substantially the same laptop as the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 in the base model.

XPS M140 - The lower end XPS computer that has an identical case with the Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop. This model has a choice of several Intel phone processors, 14.1-inch widescreen, and between 512Ã, MB to 2Ã, · RAM. This model is more media-oriented than the game does not currently have a dedicated graphics card. This model has been replaced by the E1405, a 14.1-inch laptop physically similar to the M140. It features newer Intel Core Duo processors and Intel 945 chipsets. It's no longer classified as an XPS laptop, however.

Gen 1

Inspiron XPS - The first XPS laptop, which is a re-branded Inspiron 9100, is a very heavy desktop replacement laptop ranging from 9.06 pounds without a power supply (which adds an additional 2.5 pounds). This is because it is offered with Pentium 4 HT desktop processor "Prescott" 3.4 GHz, or Pentium 4 "4 GHz" Pentium 4 "processor at the same clock speed, which delivers huge amounts of heat due to their high clock speed and micro architecture. inefficient, despite the enormous copper-based heatsink that stretches the width of the unit with three fans. Other features include LCD 1920 × 1200 15.4 inches, and the subwoofer is integrated into the bottom of the battery case, with a 12-cell battery (16-cell battery does not include a subwoofer.) Previous models come with ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 128 MB of memory , and latest models with Mobility Radeon 9800 with 256 MB of memory. It should be noted that the Mobility Radeon 9800 is based on the R420 core, the same as the early ATI Radeon X700 and X800 desktop graphics cards, but with half the pixels punctured. A popular modification to the GPU is to bridge the two traces in the upper right corner of the PCB that surrounds the open core with a conductive pen to unlock the pipeline. However, this can only be done on cores made before the 43rd week of 2004. Dell promises to upgrade the graphics card, but only sends 9700 to 9800 steps that are very small for 9700 owners (for a somewhat steep $ 399, including technicians to install it) and never sent the promised upgrade to 9800 owners. This model also suffers a disturbing whine on the headphones and microphone jack located to the left of the unit. This is because the space is shared with the left-most fan, and the fan spinning causes disruption. No known fixes other than using USB audio device, FireWire/1394 or PCMCIA for sound output.

Special Edition

Dell has introduced several "special" models based on certain models in the XPS series, but has unique characteristics. This includes special cases and high performance components (processor, video card, etc.). Some of these models are very rare because they are produced in limited quantities and are very expensive or just produce results (like the XPS X-Men Edition case, see below).

XPS 600 Renegade

The first example of a special edition in the Dell XPS series is the XPS 600 Renegade released in early 2006, including an Intel Pentium D Extreme Edition 965 processor overclocked at the factory from 3.73 GHz to 4.26 GHz. Despite the overclocking, Dell rewards Intel's warranty for the processor. The case featured a water-brush paint job completed by Mike Lavallee. Most notably, this machine is the first commercial system available to display Quad-SLI configurations, with four NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTX special graphics cards with 512 MB of memory. It also includes a Western Digital hard drive that spins at 10,000 RPM. The XPS 600 Renegade has an introductory price of $ 9,930.

XPS X-Men Give Away

In 2007 Dell announced a special XPS version of XPSM desktop system to be provided. The system has a value of approximately $ 10,000 and features a one-of-a-kind quad NVIDIA video card and an Intel Pentium 965 Extreme Edition processor. This case resembles the XPS 710 standard series with X-Men artwork on the side.

W.O.W. M1730

At CES in 2008, Dell announced the World of Warcraft edition of the M1730 laptop. This M1730 version costs around $ 4,500 and features an overclocked Intel Extreme Edition Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA SLI DX10 graphics card, PhysX card, with Full HD 17 inch widescreen display. It also comes pre-loaded with World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade expansions, as well as other limited edition items including custom backpacks.

(PRODUCT) RED

In March 2008, Dell introduced the RED XPS as part of the RED product line (PRODUCT). Part of the profits made on this special edition are being put into research to cure the AIDS virus. Until July 2011 Dell still offers Red products.
