The Illinois State Police ( ISP ) is an Illinois state police force. Formally established in 1922, Illinois State Police has more than 3,000 personnel and 21 districts. The main facility of the Illinois State Police Academy, built in 1968, is located in Springfield. Prior to 1968, training was conducted at Illinois State Fairgrounds. The ISP also maintains the registration of the Illinois sex offender, manages the state AMBER Alert program, and publishes the Illinois Identification Owner Identification Card (FOID) and the Hidden Carry License. The Illinois State Police is also responsible for driving and protecting the Illinois Governor physically. In 2005, officers and duties from the Central Illinois Police Service Management Department were incorporated into the Illinois State Police.

Traffic enforcement
Illinois State Police currently uses various methods for speed limit enforcement on Illinois highways. Grab and move RADAR, LIDAR, pacing, airspeed using ISP plane fleet, and distance measurement. The IL State Police used a special unit marked (Crown Victorias, Impalas, and Chargers, Ford Police Interceptor) and unmarked vehicle units ranging from Crown Victorias to GTP Grand Prix to LS-1 powered Z28s to Mustang GTs. The Mustangs, Camaros, and other vehicles are for programs created to combat driving and accelerate aggressively. Lightbars used on the marked unit are LED 3 Code X2100 units, Federal Signal Legend unit, and the 3rd MX7000 Code halogen/strobe unit. Before that, it was a mixture of Code 3 MX7000s and Federal Signal JetSonics and Federal Signal Vistas.
Since 1986, Illinois State Police have patrolled the Chicago freeway (District 3 and 4, which joins the Chicago District). Since 2006, photo radar mounted in the van has been used for speed enforcement in construction zones across the state. Although these cars are manned by State Police forces, a private company, ACS State and Local Solutions, provides vans for fees and receives a $ 15 bonus per ticket issued.
A Motorcycle Enforcement Bureau (MEB) was formed in 2006 consisting of 41 officers in six squads spread across the state. 50 Harley-Davidson FLHTPI Electra Glide is leased for use by MEB. Due to cost-cutting measures in mid-2010, the Bicycles Enforcement Bureau was disbanded, but some motorcycle officers remain in larger districts such as Chicago and St. Louis. Louis East.

The Illinois State Police Merit Board governs the certification of appointment and promotion of state police officers as well as discipline, deletion, demotion and suspension. The merit board consists of five civilian members appointed by the governor with the advice and approval of the state senate. Uniform
Illinois State Police Uniforms have certain qualities that separate them from their neighbors. Instead of a brown chocolate uniform (similar to Iowa State Patrol), or light blue with a dark blue color (similar to the Missouri State Road Patrol), they wore lightweight khaki shirts, and dark green trousers with black stripes. Uniform dress including a jacket that matches the pants. The cold weather equipment combines all the weather coats. The duty leather equipment consists of high gloss black clarino gloves, belts and accessories. The hat worn by the state police is a dark brown campaign hats.
The badge, not the traditional shield handled by the eagle design, is a six-pointed star with a police post, and the words " Illinois State Police " in black, along with (early) in 2002) officer badge. (The sequential inventory number of the badge was found on the back side of the badge.) The plan was silver, or chrome-plated steel for all rankings under Sergeant, and for Sergeant and above it the star was gold-plated.

Aircraft
The Illinois State Police has six aircraft used for law enforcement across the state, one Cessna 421C and five Cessna 182. The aircraft is deployed at four airports, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, DuPage Airport, MidAmerica Airport St. Louis, and Whiteside County Airport. The ISP has been using the aircraft for speed enforcement, using watch time stop measurements, since 1959.
