Pet carrier is a small portable box, chest, or cage used to transport small animals such as cats, lap dogs, miniature pigs, ferrets, chickens, guinea pigs, and so on, from one location to another.
The two main types are the front opening (this is generally a tough plastic box with an iron door, like a dog crate) and a top opener (this is generally more like a cage with a hinged roof), though there are other types. Carriers usually have a handle on top, though some are easier to carry in someone's arms than using a handle.

There are different types and styles of pet carriers available, according to one's specific needs, such as when traveling by plane or car and for species, weight, and pet size.
- The airline carrier
- When traveling by plane, each airline has its own specifications and requirements to ensure that pets and other travelers travel safely and comfortably. Some airlines allow travelers to take their pets on airplanes if they are conveniently accommodated at airline-approved airlines. Even then, usually only dogs and small cats can get into the cabin; otherwise, they should be in the cargo room, in specially designed chests like dog chests.
- For pets in the cab, the general rule is that the operator should fit under the seat in front of the owner and should have a waterproof bottom. Also, the aircraft carrier must be large enough for the pet to spin, stand, and lie down. Furthermore, the enclosure should be ventilated at least on three sides. The crates or cages used in cargo travel should have strong iron doors to prevent the pet from bending them in any way and should attach the owner's name and address and also notices "Live Animal This Side Up".
- Backpack of pet carrier
- The pet carrier rucksack is suitable for smaller pets when walking. They are also convenient for hiking, shopping, road trips or veterinary appointments. They have a well-ventilated and comfortable compartment for pets for safe and fun trips. Some models of backpack carriers are approved airlines so they can be used safely while traveling by plane.
- Pet carrier backpacks are available in different sizes, colors, materials, and designs. Some have extra pockets that can be used for extra storage. Most pet operators are designed for pets that weigh no more than 10 pounds. They have side vents and side zippers for easy use. Some carrier backpacks come with wheels that allow to turn the backpack carrier into one roll.
- Car-seat carrier
- Used on the go by car; this is also called car seat for pets. They provide pet security and they come in different sizes, colors, and designs to fit in a car seat. Different sizes can accommodate smaller or larger pets up to 25 pounds. They can also often be used as a pet bed at home or at the hotel. Car seats are usually made of sheep's fur and filled with foam for comfort.
- To improve security, and for larger pets, sturdy crates are used.
