On the afternoon of August 20, 1966, a young man was flying a kite at Morro do Vintà © m (Vintà © m Hill) in NiterÃÆ'³i, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when he found the bodies of two deceased males and reported them. they are to the authorities. Morro performs Vintà © m difficult terrain, and the police can not reach the body until the next day. When a small team of police and firefighters arrived, they found a strange sight: the corpses were side by side, partly covered by grass. Each wore a formal suit, a mask of lead, and a waterproof coat. There is no sign of trauma or evidence of struggle. Beside the bodies, the police found an empty water bottle and a package of two wet towels. A small notebook was also identified, written with faint instructions, <16> estar no local determinado. proteger metaña aguardar sinal mascara " ('16: 30 is in the specified location 18:30 swallow capsule, after effect protect metal waiting for signal 'mask).

The two men were identified as Manoel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel JosÃÆ'Â © Viana, two electronic technicians from Campos dos Goytacazes, a city a few kilometers northeast of Rio de Janeiro. After the investigation, the police reconstructed a reasonable narrative of the men's last days. On August 17, Cruz and Viana left Campos dos Goytacazes with the intention of stating that they needed to buy some materials for work. The two men then boarded the bus to NiterÃÆ'³i, and arrived at 2:30 pm. The evidence shows that a waterproof coat is purchased at a shop there, and a bottle of water from a local bar. After being interviewed, the waiter from the bar described Miguel as "very nervous," and saw him check his watch frequently. It was the last time they were known to have seen life; allegedly they went straight from the bar to where they were found.

No obvious injuries were found on the scene, or later on autopsy. The search for toxic substances does not occur. The coroner's office was very busy at the time and, when the autopsy was finally done, the internal organs of both victims were too badly decomposed for reliable testing.

Theory

There are several theories that have been proposed to explain the case, ranging from dirty games to UFOs. One theory revolves around the testimony of a friend of two people, who claim that they are members of the "scientific spiritualist" group. The people seem to be trying to contact extraterrestrials or spirits using psychedelic drugs. Believing that such encounters would be accompanied by blinding light, men cut metal masks to protect their eyes and may have died from drug overdoses. This account is corroborated by esoteric diaries found on the scene and by masking materials and literature on spirits found in male homes.
