The Original Penguin (also known simply as Penguin ) is the American clothing line. With roots in the 1950s and 60s, this brand specializes in clothing, footwear, and eyeglasses. It is sold in North America, South America, Central America, and Europe. The brand was introduced in 1955 by Munsingwear, a garment manufacturer and garment manufacturer headquartered in Minneapolis, when it launched the original Penguin golf shirt in the United States. The Munsingwear golf shirt adds a "action gusset" under the arm and moves the pocket to the right chest to avoid interruption of the swing. After the meeting, the artist Birnbaum returned to Chicago and within 24 hours had sent a proposed logo sketch to the executives of Munsingwear. The new logo was adopted, the shirt reached the $ 5.00 market and was successful. It's worn by Bob Hope and Bing Crosby for publicity, but the actual ad features golfers Arnold Palmer, Dow Finsterwald and Jack Burke, Jr. About three years later Munsingwear introduced a second line for bowlers and Birnbaum came up with a bowling penguin. Also worn by the likes of Richard Nixon and Frank Sinatra, these golf shirts became symbols in suburban recreation into the 1980s. In 1996 the brand was purchased by Perry Ellis International, and a new sportswear collection was released in spring 2003.
Original Penguin is sold in upscale and mid-sized department stores such as Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters and David Jones, and in regional boutiques, country clubs and specialty stores. The company also set up several independent boutiques throughout the country, carrying clothes with C & amps jeans C and Levi as well as the original Penguin outfit.
