Plot

After two Supreme Court Justices were killed by a murderer named Khamel, Tulane University law student Darby Shaw wrote a legal summary explaining his theory of why they were killed. He gave a brief explanation to his law professor, Thomas Callahan, who in turn gave a copy to Gavin Verheek, a special adviser to the FBI Director. Callahan was killed by a car bomb; Darby managed to avoid the same fate and was later attacked by an unknown assailant. Realizing that the brevity was accurate, he hid and contacted Verheek for help.

An informant called himself contact Garcia Washington Herald reporter Gray Grantham with information about the murder, but suddenly disappeared. Darby contacted Grantham, who found the information accurate. Darby's computer, disks and files disappeared from his home, where he was attacked again but managed to escape. He contacted and agreed to meet Verheek, but Khamel killed Verheek and imitated him at the meeting. Before Khamel could kill Darby, he was shot and killed by an unknown person.

Darby agreed to meet Grantham in New York City, where he shared the theory expressed in a nutshell: the killing was done on behalf of the oil tycoon Victor Mattiece, who intends to drill for oil in Louisiana swamps that are the habitat for an endangered species of the Pelican Bird chocolate. The court's appeal to reject Mattiece's drilling rights is expected to reach the Supreme Court. Darby had suspected that Mattiece, hoping to change the case for her good, was behind the murder of judges, given the history of the neighborhood. When Grantham told him about Garcia, they found out that the man was Curtis Morgan, a lawyer in the oil and gas division at the Washington, DC, DC law firm. Blazevich.

Darby visiting White & amp; Blazevich, pretending to have an appointment with Morgan, and was told he had been murdered. Suspecting that his murder was related to incriminating information, he and Grantham visited his widow who gave them the key to a safe deposit box. Darby visited the bank to pick up the contents of the box. After nearly escaping death with a car bomb, they reached the Washington Herald Building where they reviewed documents and video footage taken from the Morgan box. The tape confirms Darby's theory, since Morgan's documents prove his own discovery that Mattiece ordered the murder of Judges. With this evidence, Grantham wrote his story. He gave the FBI an opportunity to comment and the FBI Director Voyles confirmed that Darby's "Pelican Brief" was sent to the White House. He revealed the President ordered the FBI to "retreat", and that the CIA was investigating Mattiece, with one of them killing Khamel to save Darby's life. An aircraft arranged for Darby to escape from the country.

Darby watched a TV interview from Grantham where she revealed that Mattiece and two partners at White & Blazevich has been indicted in federal court, the president's chief of staff has resigned, and the President (who received a $ 4.2 million contribution from Mattiece) will not run again. Grantham diverts speculation that Darby is fictitious, but agrees that he's "almost" too good to be true. Darby smiled.
